When paddleboarding or kayaking, it's important to follow safety procedures to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries. Some general safety procedures to keep in mind include:

1. Wear a personal flotation device (PFD) at all times. This is a crucial piece of safety equipment that can keep you afloat in the event of a capsizing or fall into the water.
2. Check the weather forecast before heading out on the water. Wind and waves can quickly become dangerous, so it's important to know what conditions to expect.
3. Let someone know your plans and expected return time. If something goes wrong, it's important for someone to know where you were headed and when you were expected back.
4. Always be aware of your surroundings and other boats, especially motorized ones. Avoid areas with heavy boat traffic and obey all waterway rules and regulations.
5. Learn how to swim and be comfortable in water. Paddleboarding and kayaking can take place in deep water and if you fall off, your life jacket will only help you float, it won't help you swim.
6. Know how to self-rescue. If you capsize, it's important to know how to get back onto your board or kayak and how to return to shore safely.
7. Keep an eye out for signs of hypothermia and sun exposure, both of which can be serious risks when spending time on the water.
8. Lastly bring necessary supplies, such as water, food, sunscreen, first aid kit and a phone in a waterproof bag.
